What is a good, very low cost printer, needed mostly for black and white printing with cheap ink refills?

I mainly need the printer for printing shipping labels and ect. What is a good, low price printer? All in one would be great too. Or what store is the best for purchasing a printer? I need something where the ink isnt super expensive also. I have the kodak easyshare 5500 right now but this printer is no good at all for me. You can also try ebay for this printer but I certainly do not

It's usually better to refill cartridges rather than replace them. OfficeMax I believe will fill cartridges for like $5 (maybe it's Staples or Office Depot?)





But also, what kind of volume printing you're doing matters. Getting a cheap printer if you're doing 100 pages a day usually ends up being more expensive in the long run, because it's not designed for that volume, nor is it as fast (wasting time).





Personally, however, when selecting a printer, I find the cheapest cartridge and then find a printer to match it! I use the HP1510 All-in-one, which use $15 cartridges, but it also prints in color, scans, and copies.

DAVID has given us a steady stream of personal experience with printers and a good source for buying inexpensive cartridges





However he is wrong about re-filling. I have been refilling the same cartridges for about three years. I keep two sets, one filled and one empty and ready to be re-filled.





I buy my ink in 1/2 pint bottles for about $17 which makes the cost of a refill about 50 cents for my Canon pixma IP6000.





What David does NOT say is that you have to learn how to fill your own cartridges. It requires covering the sponge entry with scotch tape BEFORE filling and, of course it requires a glue gun to seal the filling hole. IF a person does not have these things then it will be, as David says, DISASTER.





But I'll bet there are lots of do-it-yourself folks out there who would benefit from learning how to refill.





The second and last secret is to KNOW HOW to clean the print head.


It requires just rubbing alcohol and twin tips and it has to be done every few months. Once you learn it keep the print head like new.





I write Book Digests of about 20-30 pages, large print for folks who have vision problems. I like to give these best seller condensed books to people who can't read the regular type.





It would cost me $2.00 each to have these books printed but I can print them for about a quarter and that lets me give away 100 or so without feeling the financial pinch.
Never refill inkjet cartridges. It's the best way to kill your printer. It may work 9 out of 10 times but the 10th time will make you regret doing it. Every day there are several messages here from people who learned the hard way. Always use new - not refilled or remanufactured - cartridges.


If all you need is black print, I bought two Brother HL2040 laser printers 3 years ago for $50 each. I found toner refills on ebay for $6. You need a $3 part called a reset gear to make the refills work (also available on ebay). In thousands of pages all I ever had to replace was the toner.


If you're looking for a reliable all-in-one inkjet with good quality output, a solid warranty and inexpensive ink, look at the Epson workforce or NX series.





The best warranty in the industry. For a year, Epson will express-ship a replacement and pick up the old one.





Epson has also made things easier for their customers by standardizing their cartridges. Most of their printers use one of two types. The three-color plus black use T069 (CX5000 CX6000 CX7000 CX7400 CX7450 CX8400 CX9400FAX CX9475Fax NX100 NX105 NX400 Workforce 30/40/500/600 and C120) and the 5-color plus black use T078 (R260 R280 R380 RX580 RX595 and RX680). This means finding cartridges is easy.





I get cartridges for my Epsons from http://ccs-digital.com for under $3 each which hold 50% more ink than standard cartridges.
